🌲 Community Hub Associate – Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) Seasonal Opportunity at Harriman State Park (2025)
Just 38 miles from the heart of New York City lies the gateway to adventure—Harriman State Park, New York’s second-largest state park, home to 31 serene lakes and 200+ miles of scenic trails. At the entrance, the Reeves Meadow Visitor Center is the first stop for many explorers—and we’re looking for friendly, reliable individuals to be part of that welcome.
Become a Community Hub Associate with the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC)—America’s oldest outdoor recreation and conservation club—and provide outstanding guest service while helping serve one of the area’s most celebrated natural areas.
🎯 What You’ll Do
As a Community Hub Associate, you’ll be a front-line ambassador of AMC’s mission and visitor experience. Your role will involve a mix of guest interaction, retail support, environmental upkeep, and emergency preparedness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet visitors and offer accurate, current trail and park information
- Provide useful local tourism and hospitality suggestions
- Manage the Point of Sale (POS) system, handle deliveries, and inventory stocking
- Keep retail displays in order and build store merchandise knowledge
- Keep the visitor center, restrooms, and surrounding grounds tidy and organized
- Help organize backstock and manage storage space
- Sell and promote AMC memberships aggressively
- Direct emergencies to proper state authorities
- Maintain AMC’s hospitality standards with professionalism and energy
- Perform other related responsibilities as required to facilitate center operations
🧭 Who We’re Looking For
Required Qualifications:
- Passion for the outdoors and AMC’s conservation mission
- Friendly and professional demeanor in guest service roles
- Basic understanding of safe outdoor recreation and hiking practices
- Strong time management and ability to self-direct
- Access to reliable transportation
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Office proficiency preferred)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Able to stand/walk for extended periods (up to 9 hours)
- Comfortable lifting items up to 50 lbs
Preferred But Not Required:
- Previous experience in retail or guest services
- Familiarity with merchandising and sales environments
- Team-oriented mindset and adaptable personality
