Job Summary
We are looking for a passionate and experienced Retail Manager to lead our team and drive sales performance while ensuring a memorable in-store customer experience. The Retail Manager serves as a critical member of the store leadership team, responsible for executing sales strategies, leading booksellers, and managing the day-to-day operations of the floor.
This leadership role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced retail environment, enjoys mentoring a team, and is passionate about books and customer interaction.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Experience & Sales
- Develop and mentor bookselling skills in self and team members
- Foster a customer-first culture and ensure all team members uphold service standards
- Monitor and improve merchandising execution, layout flow, and product availability
- Provide category and title performance feedback to buyers to drive relevant inventory decisions
- Resolve customer concerns and manage escalated service issues professionally and efficiently
Staff Leadership & Scheduling
- Ensure coverage of critical retail functions: sales floor, reserve desk, and registers
- Assign staff projects that support product maintenance and merchandising goals
- Lead by example during high-traffic hours and peak seasons
- Create schedules and adjust staffing to meet business needs, when required
- Provide coaching and performance reviews to floor team with professionalism and confidentiality
Store Operations & Procedures
- Execute stock transfers, process publisher returns, and manage inventory movement
- Maintain operational compliance with company systems, policies, and best practices
- Collaborate with other departments (HR, Maintenance, Inventory, etc.) to improve store performance
- Use POS systems and inventory software to monitor and manage daily tasks
- Participate in loss prevention procedures and store audits
Qualifications
- Minimum 2–3 years of retail management or supervisory experience, preferably in books, media, or specialty retail
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Proficiency with retail systems (POS, inventory software, task management tools)
- Ability to handle complex customer interactions and problem-solving on the spot
- Demonstrated ability to train and mentor staff in a diverse and inclusive environment
- High attention to detail and organizational skills
- Must be dependable and punctual with a strong work ethic
Compensation & Benefits
